No Black Friday, No Cyber Monday, No Worries
So here’s the deal. I have never once gone shopping on
Black Friday.
Not that I don’t like a good deal or a sale but the
aggravation of fighting grown women acting like two-year-old's doesn’t appeal to
me. Especially over a piece of merchandise that you’re probably not saving that
much money on anyway.
Plus who wants to get up at the crack of dawn, or not
sleep at all, just to get into a battle royale on “discounted” merchandise?
I would rather pay the best price I can find, or do
without, before submitting my body and mental health to that type of anguish.
When my kids were little, they had most of the popular
toys.
In most cases, we always managed to get them what they
wanted without all the hassle.
Yes we had friends that got up early or went to stand in
line on Thanksgiving evening so they could get the good deals. But that’s just not
my cup of tea.
There is so much competition on just about everything now
you really never know if you’re getting a good deal or not.
My favorite is when the store says “20% off everything in
stock”. They actually mark it all up by 20% prior to the “sale” just so they
can say it’s 20% off. No need to mention the retailer that does that. Who do
they think they’re fooling anyway?
I noticed the stores that have the most merchandise on
sale always look like junk stores. The poor employees have to race around just
to change or re-tag the items. Talk about having a stressful job.
Going to the mall and strolling around used to be fun.
Now I’d rather drive 20 miles through a skunk smelling highway than do that.
Most of my shopping now happens online. This used to be a
simple process but now it is also getting more confusing. A few years ago you
would put in what you were looking for at whatever store you were searching and
your item would pop up. Not anymore.
Every store in the country, even those you’ve never heard
of, puts their two cents in on your computer before you can even get to the
site you want. What is that about?
And, when you finally find what you’re looking for, they
start with the most expensive merchandise first thinking you’re so stupid that
you’re going to jump at that price without scrolling down. Really?
Adding insult to injury, once they think they know what
you’re looking for they will “follow you” forever with ads on Facebook and any
other app that you’re on.
Someone told me they think their house is bugged because
they have found ads on their devices for merchandise that they merely talked
about in their own home. Or maybe your Amazon Echo does more than play music
and give you news.
No wonder people don’t sleep well anymore. How can you
possibly get a good night’s sleep with all this stuff going on?
I think I want to find a house in the woods at the top of
a mountain with no cable. Just three channels like the old days with some
plumbing, freshwater, a nice fridge and stove. And plenty of books. Now that’s
what I call luxury.
